Booking & Arrival

We recommend pre-booking your tickets on our website to guarantee a particular arrival window on the date you plan to visit. We’re still working to ‘arrival windows’ as it helps us control the number of people on the site at any one time, which makes for a better experience for you. A small number of spaces will be available to book on arrival, however these will be sold on a ‘first come, first served’ basis and you may be required to wait until there is an available timed entry slot.

For any queries related to booking online please call our booking line 028 9042 8428.

Tickets booked are non-refundable and non-transferable. Please call our booking line on 028 9042 8428 if you have extenuating circumstances.

Yes we take bookings for groups of over 15 people – and you get a 10% discount! Please email us to discuss details of your visit, and to receive your discount. Please make sure you state the booking is for ‘Ulster Transport Museum’ in the email.

We no longer do a dual ticket for the Ulster Transport Museum and Ulster Folk Museum, and therefore you must book a separate ticket here if you plan to visit the Ulster Folk Museum on the same day.

If you are running late, we will make every attempt to process your booking on arrival on the same day and provide entry as soon as possible, however there may be a delay in gaining access.

We are able to scan your ticket on entry either from a printed ticket or on a smartphone or tablet. Proof of booking is required to enter the museum. If you forget your pre-booked tickets, we can check your booking reference but this may delay your visit.

The only discount scheme we are part of is Membership Plus. Just show your membership card at admissions. If you have any queries, please call our booking line on 028 9042 8428.

For affiliate member organisations such as Irish Museums Association, Art Pass or International Council of Museums, please call our booking helpline on 028 9042 8428 to book a time slot.

No, unfortunately since the change to Universal Credit, National Museums NI are unable to offer discounts.

Yes. Visitors with a registered disability can enter the museum for free, and access helpers or carers accompanying someone with a disability are also offered free entry. Visitors may be asked to confirm their eligibility by presenting one of the following:

  • Award letter from the Department for Communities
  • Disabled Drivers Blue Badge card
  • Disabled persons bus pass

We have a limited number of mobility scooters and wheelchairs available for any visitor with additional accessibility needs. These can be booked in advance by emailing us. Please state that this is for ‘Ulster Transport Museum’ in your email.

Members

Yes. Our members can book arrival windows online on the day you would like to visit or if you prefer to book over the phone please call 028 9042 8428 (Monday - Friday, 09.00 - 16.00).

HMRC has deemed priority booking to be an additional benefit to members and therefore we are unable to offer priority booking for members as a result.

We would ask that members bring their membership card with them so our welcome team can validate their pre-booked ticket on arrival. We can also accept a member’s photographic ID for validation of tickets.

Your Visit

We estimate that most of our visitors will tour the museum site in 2 to 2.5 hours. There is no time limit to your visit and you can enjoy the exhibits and galleries at your leisure. If you are also planning to visit Ulster Folk Museum, we recommend you leave a further three hours for this.

All our galleries are now open for you to enjoy. To keep you and our staff safe we have introduced a recommended route system.

We know you’ve missed being able to get on board our trains and trams, but now you can! During the peak of the pandemic, we had to completely close off access to our trains and trams to keep you, and them, safe.

Single-use visitor guide maps are available on your arrival to help you navigate the museum safely.

We do not provide guided tours, so you’re invited to experience everything the museum has to offer at your own pace. Visitor maps are available on your arrival and will help guide you around the museum. Please be mindful of other visitors on the site and respect social distancing.

Only assistance dogs are allowed into the Ulster Transport Museum. Assistance dogs are dogs that are trained and required to provide a service to their owner/user. This includes:

  • Guide dogs who assist visitors who are blind or visually impaired.
  • Hearing dogs, or signal dogs who help visitors who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Service dogs who are not specifically trained for visual or hearing impairment, but are trained to do other work, such as provide mobility and emotional assistance to certain visitors.

Please also make sure you pick up after your dog.

Museum Facilities

No.

Yes, we have public toilets available throughout the museum, which are managed and cleaned on a regular basis. Please ensure you follow the guidance we have put in place for everyone’s safety when using our toilets. We are asking visitors to keep a safe distance and to keep in mind that several disabilities are hidden when it comes to using adapted toilets.

The Midland Tearooms is now closed, however there are vending machines with hot and cold drinks, light refreshments, tray bakes and confectionary. We have an allocated seating area where these can be enjoyed.

You’re welcome to bring a picnic to eat outdoors, and we have increased the amount of picnic tables available on site. Food and drink are not allowed to be consumed in our galleries, beyond the allocated seating area, in order to help us protect our collections.

Yes, both the main Gift Shop and the gift shop in our Land, Sea and Sky Gallery are open to visitors.

Unfortunately we are unable to allow visitors to try on personal items such as jewellery but we are offering a full refund on all items (excluding earrings and food) up to 60 days on presentation of receipt, and all returned sale items will be held off sale for 5 days. Every purchase supports the work of National Museums NI.

While contactless payment is advised, we also accept cash payments in GBP Sterling and Euro (notes only). Any change we give in return will be in GBP Sterling.

Yes, our car park is open and parking is free.
