Taken for a Ride
Imagine yourself as a passenger in an elegant horse-drawn carriage in our Taken for a Ride exhibition, demonstrating the skill of coachbuilders in the late Victorian period. Finely made chariots for formal occasions share the gallery with market carts and phaetons used for leisure to promenade in the park.
A particular highlight is the personal carriage collection of James Chaine, a former MP for Antrim, who was heavily involved in the development of the Port of Larne. These beautifully built vehicles reflect fine craftsmanship and also provide an insight into what a private vehicle collection would have looked like in the 1800s.
